We are quite proud to announce a plethora of good news to our readers. For starters, we have recently updated the homepage with the listing of materials included in Issue Two of our aetheric periodical.
We are also quite overjoyed to broadcast that Head Writer and Calendar Countess Jill Aldrich has joined our team in recent days. Do check out Jill’s biography on the Show of Wonders Staff page, as her name will be appearing more and more on these pages in the coming weeks.
Jill can be contacted through the Aether Mail for all your calendar needs, and she shall also be composing numerous New-England era convention reports over the next few months.
In Other News …
We welcome submissions to the zine outside of our regular, bi-monthly publication. If you wish to be featured on the front page or in an article that runs within this blog, then we are most grateful for any works passed on to us.
Our Editor, Matthew Delman, will be speaking at the Upstate Steampunk convention in Greenville, S.C. on November 20. If you live in the area, or are not too far distant, Matthew would welcome the additional support as he presents his research on the Roots of Steampunk.
Until next time, dear Steampunks, I am …

Doctor Fantastique

We are most gratified by the attention Issue One of Doctor Fantastique’s Show of Wonders garnered among the Steampunk community at large. Such an influx of visitors and such praise is always good for our hearts.
So it is with great pleasure that we announce we are officially open for submissions to Issue Two of the magazine, which has a publication date of October 22, 2010. We request that you kindly send us your submissions by October 1, which will give our Editor time to read and format the accepted tales for proliferation across the Aether.
All emailed submissions should be sent to doctorfantastiques@gmail.com, in a Word file attached to the email document. If you have any questions, do consult our Submission Guidelines or send us your query through the Aether Mail.
We look forward to your pieces.
Yours in Gears and Cogs,
Doctor Fantastique

A few weeks ago, we connected with the fantastic Countessa Lenora of Steampunk Canada via the Twitter pages of both ourselves and our erstwhile Editor. The Right Honorable Countessa has since been a very intriguing entrant into our Steampunk network, and shares with Mike Perschon, the Steampunk Scholar, a country of origin in that both are Canadian (and they are also strong advocates of the genre we all love).
On to to the proper notion of why we are writing this post, however. The Right Honorable Countessa announced on Twitter today that things are gearing up toward the Canadian National Steampunk Exhibition in Toronto next year (April 29 to May 1, 2011 to be precise).
If you happen to reside in the Great North as it were, I am certain the Countessa and her coterie will welcome you most vociferously at that event. As their webpage shows, the Exhibition will be “a spectacular celebration of the best in steampunk literature, arts, entertainment and fashion.”
Do check it out dear readers, as any event that furthers Steampunk is very good in our books.
Yours in Gears and Cogs,
Doctor Fantastique

We were very interested recently to discover a comic upon the Aether that we had yet to peruse. Our Editor is already a tremendous fan of Phil and Kaja Foglio’s Girl Genius – a Hugo-nominated Gaslamp Fantasy webcomic — so we were very pleased to stumble upon Virtuoso during our browsing around the Aetheric Web.
As we believe most descriptions are best written by their authors, here is what the writers/artists of Virtuoso describe their own tale as:
“Virtuoso is an alternate history of an Africa that never existed, one run by steel and springs, commanded by vast matriarchies and past the height of its culture.
Virtuoso is the story of Jnembi Osse, a professional weapons manufacturer for the most powerful empire in the world, and how her private rebellion becomes a full scale international incident.”
The webcomic is young yet, having only been operational since March 2010. However, the story is already off to a very intriguing beginning and we very much look forward to the further adventures of Jnembi Osse.
Do check out the comic, as we are convinced you will be pleasantly intrigued by the story.
Yours in Gears and Cogs,
Doctor Fantastique

We are proud to announce a very interesting break-through of sorts in the life of Doctor Fantastique’s Show of Wonders.
The talented and erudite Katie Robinson, proprietress of the Pink Noise artist ezine, has recently added us to her links page. She also contact us in regards to crafting a partnership of sorts, which we of course leapt at. We do enjoy the material Madamoiselle Robinson has included in her Ezine, and at her request our Editor agreed to compose an article for her periodical that attempts to explain what Steampunk is.
We were also given permission by Madamoisselle Robinson to pass the word along that she is looking to feature some Steampunk artists in her Ezine. Hence, we would like to pass along this word forthwith to all Steampunk artists in our sphere of influence.
Do contact Katie at your earliest opportunity, dear artists of the Steampunk persuasion. Her ezine is swiftly becoming more and more prominent. And more press is always a good thing.
Yours in Gears and Cogs,
Doctor Fantastique

Steampunk musician Tom Slatter uploaded his latest track — The Steam Engine Murder and the Trial of Seven Bells John — to his Bandcamp site earlier today. We do enjoy Mr. Slatter’s offerings, and as he is a regular follower/commenter on our Twitter stream, we do feel obligated to bring attention to his music.
Visit his bandcamp site to listen to yet more of his music. He also operates at http://www.tomslatter.co.uk/.

We at Doctor Fantastique’s Show of Wonders are quite pleased to announce that we’ve already lined up a few writers for Issue One. We are very excited about the fine fellow Steampunks we have lined up — stellar writers all of them, people that we are very grateful for their creativity and intelligence in allowing us to publish their words.
There is yet more space to fill in Issue One, however, so do feel free to send us whichever scholarship, short fiction, poetry, or what-have-you that you wish us to publish.
Also, do sign up for our mailing list. We intend to send out Issue One as an email newsletter as well as publication here on our Aetheric home, but we want to have a good wide spread of subscribers. You will not be disappointed.
Yours in Gears and Cogs,
Doctor Fantastique

After further review of the timeframe and our current technical capabilities, we have decided to push back the first issue launch of Doctor Fantastique’s Show of Wonders to mid-August instead of mid-July. We wish to allow for more Steampunk creatives to find out about us and decide whether or not to submit their work for our perusal, but also we realized there is a need for certain technological figurings to be taken care of before we can launch our steamship into the Aether.
It bears repeating that we at Doctor Fantastique’s will consider everything Steampunk focused that alchemists of creativity wish to aether-mail to us. Contact us at doctorfantastiques@gmail.com or via the form link in the left sidebar. We welcome questions, concerns, or offers of assistance.
Yours in Gears and Cogs,
Doctor Fantastique
