Steampunk display cabinet being made

| September 24, 2012

Now that we have started selling the iPhonographs and Sir Round-a-Sound to the general public I wanted to create a display case to show off the goods.  Check out our new catalogue!  It is a very large display case which looks a bit like a cathedral!  It will have glass windows, speaker holes and lighting.  Here is a glimpse of its beginnings.

Busy, Busy, Busy! Steampunk!

| August 27, 2012

We have opened up a space at the Rocks in Sydney, Australia to sell steampunk artefacts.  So I have been very busy creating new pieces for our opening which happened on Friday 24th Aug, 2012.  Follow us on Facebook and please like us if you like what you see – thanks.  Here is a sneak peek at some of the pieces.

The beauty of these pieces is the sound quality of your music when played through them.  The smaller ones have an overall great sound throughout the range from bass to treble.  The iPhonograph with the two horns is perfect for big band sounds like Glenn Miller and brilliant for vocals, you could swear the musicians are in the room with you!  The prices vary from $550 to $1,250 and are a bargain with the amount of work put into them – the electronics are the latest.  The smaller ones are ‘Sir Round-a-Sound and the larger one is called ‘Too Tone’.

Steampunk Steady Cam for my iPhone!

| July 3, 2012

I was asked to film some book launches by Lisa (my partner) for an author (Robyn Caughlan) who has asked Lisa to make her book into a film.  The book is called ‘Waiting at the Gate‘ – where you can share the journey from book to film.  It’s billed as ‘one woman’s journey out of hell’ and it’s a pretty apt description of the tumultuous life and times of incredible Aboriginal artist and fashion designer Robyn Caughlan.  Lisa’s going to be doing her trademark giveaways and ‘meet the makers’ events during the film’s production so liking is a good way to be amongst the first in line for previews, sneak peeks etc.!

Anyway I wanted to use an iPhone to film the launches but wanted to find a way to stabilise the phone and this is one solution I came up with.  It is gyroscopic in nature similar to what they use on ships.  The pendulum keeps the camera upright and the ‘disks’ keep it level no matter how you angle the handle attached to the outer disk.  It is very easy to make and can easily be worked out from the photographs – enjoy!

The iPhone slides into the cradle quite snuggly.

An iPhonograph for Charity

| June 25, 2012

I was asked if I could donate an iPhonograph to NSW Cavalcade of History and Fashion charity to raise some much needed funds in a raffle.  So I created this more modern version (compared to my previous iPhonograph) as 1st prize in their biggest fundraising event this year – their 50th Anniversary Fashion Parade raising money to preserve clothing of past eras which provide unique clues to our social history.  Here is a link to NSW Cavalcade of History and Fashion.  Click here to see the pictures of the iPhonograph in its original form.

She’s a beauty and has an input for a microphone (with it’s own separate volume control) and you can control the Treble, Bass and Volume.  This baby has 50 watts of sound and what a SOUND!!  You can plug in your iPhone, iPad, iPod Into the cradle or any audio device through the microphone input.

iPhonograph wins ‘Waste to Art’ competition

| March 25, 2012

The iPhonograph was entered into the ‘Waste to Art’ competition in the Braemar Gallery, Blue Mountains, Australia and won!  The prize was a certificate, 6 cup cakes and a voucher (for 2) to dine at any restaurant of our choosing!  Needless to say I was stoked.  This is all thanks to my partner Lisa who entered the iPhonograph into this competition.  Needless to say I have a lot of projects to finish – I will keep you updated.

Just when I thought I was getting ahead!!!

| March 20, 2012

It’s not enough that I have so many things to finish I’ve now been asked to create an iPhonograph for an art exhibition called ‘from waste to art’.  So…….this is what I have been working on.  It has a 50 watt amplifier which I built from a kit, a 50 watt speaker under the embossed brass horn which can handle a 100 watts of power and to finish this off I am installing a tone control.  The cradle takes an iPad, iPhone or iPod and charges them at the same time – enjoy!  I am changing the black knobs on the front for nice gleaming brass ones!

The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff

| March 6, 2012

The Bleak Old Shop Of Stuff is a four-part comedy adventure set in the Dickensian world of Jedrington Secret-Past, the up-standing family man and owner of The Old Shop of Stuff, Victorian London’s most successful purveyor of miscellaneous odd things.

The series has an impressive ensemble cast led by Robert Webb (That Mitchell And Webb Look) in the role of Jedrington and Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd) who plays his wife Conceptiva.

The Christmas special will feature Stephen Fry as the evil lawyer Malifax Skulkingworm alongside David Mitchell (That Mitchell And Webb Look), Celia Imrie (Nanny McPhee), Pauline McLynn (Father Ted) and Johnny Vegas (Ideal). The episode sees Jedrington’s family incarcerated by Skulkingworm in London’s infamous prison The Skint, until they can repay a mysterious and vast debt. Will Jedrington rescue his family in time for Christmas or lose them forever? And is there more to the name Secret-Past than meets the eye?
