Miskatonic Monday – The Horror in Clay (Cthulhu goes tiki?)

Lights out, everybody.
On Miskatonic Mondays, we celebrate the “weird” fiction of HP Lovecraft and the genre of otherworldly horror it spawned.
This week, we’re focusing our unblinking eye at Jonathan “Atari” Chaffin, a member of the Cult of Tiki from Atlanta, GA. Atari is a self-proclaimed artist and geek, and now he’s bringing Lovecraft’s terror to the tiki bar.
His new project, The Horror In Clay, is a 30oz Cthulhu-themed tiki mug inspired by his love of Lovecraft. At 7.5 inches tall and glazed in green, this food-safe terror will loom over those puny shot glasses, but only if we make it happen. Atari is raising funds on Kickstarter right now, and he has a ton of great looking rewards for all sponsorship levels, including everything from custom coasters, to a limited edition 36oz Cthulhu tiki mug.
In his own words, “…the rewards are not just cunning bits of practical design (matchbooks and the like), but all of the rewards house clues and hints about the origin of the mug and the idol on which it is based. A lifetime of tabletop RPGs and short horror fiction led me to design an entire history for the Horror In Clay tiki mug. The tale is told through [the] ephemera…”
The mug has already been commissioned, sculpted, molded, and slipcast by the fabulous Kristina Lucas Francis from the final mold in a limited earthenware edition which was used to produce a bisque master and glaze tests. If funding is successful, the design goes into production and it should be ready by October.
