Miskatonic Monday – Book review of "Black Wings of Cthulhu"

| March 26, 2012

Lights out, everybody.

On Miskatonic Mondays, we celebrate the “weird” fiction of HP Lovecraft and the genre of otherworldly horror it spawned.

Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890-1937) heavily influenced a generation of horror authors including Stephen King and Robert Bloch, but today’s genre fans are far less acquainted with his work. (Which is understandable––Lovecraft’s fiction has always seemed like something you study rather than something you read.) Hitting American bookstores this week, editor J.T. Joshi’s Black Wings of Cthulhupushes the author back into the horror limelight with 21 new stories set in Lovecraft‘s patently bizarre universe.

Ryan Daley has a good overview of Joshi’s latest dip into the Lovecraft’s inkwell at Bloody Disgusting, horror’s one-stop-shop on the internet.  You can read all about it, including some picks for the best short stories at >http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/28868

You can pick up Black Wings of Cthulhu today in the Dieselpunks Shop. It comes in both paperback and electronic edition. The human leather edition will be out soon, but only if you order it in person at Joshi’s “special” shop in Innsmouth.
