Happy New Year from The Steampunk Tribune, Facebook updates, (and Princess Fleur, the Steampunk Chihuahua)!

| January 1, 2013

A new year starts, full of optisism and hope, and has been my tradition for the past few years, I do post one of the cuter and SFW Steampunk ladies of the genere.  This year’s lovely lass is the amazing Princess Fleur, who not only has a bevvy of admieres (well, a handful), but is ready for her next adventure!  Her facebook page has been a tad quiet as of late, but I have no doubt she is off on another exciting out-and-about!  To follow Princess Fleur, please do consider a visit to her Facebook page, at: https://www.facebook.com/TheAdventureOfPrincessFluerSteamChihuahua

Speaking of Facebook updates, the results of the poll though slightly down, the winning choice was the listing the urls on the sidebar, closely followed by a secondary page at the top.  I will be laboring to find all the persons who made requests in the past, along with taking requests for addition, to the Tribune – my apologies to those who have been waiting!  If your Facebook locale is not listed (or you have submitted a request and I have not added it yet), please do send said request on the “Comments” for the blog, please!  (The email account for the Tribune is choked with Facebook notes as it is, and I have unfortunately missed a few issues – leaving me a comment in “Comments” is more apt to grab my attention.)  The goal – have the Facebook pages updated by the end of the month (ideally).

Finally, a few upcoming changes in the works, blog speaking.  After a bit of soul searching, I’m shuttering a number of non-Steampunk blogs, and will be moving forward with the Steampunk Tribune (overarching Steampunk blog), the Steampunk Travelogue (Second Life locations and issues in the Steamlands), and the New Babbage Register (New Babbage specifically).  Not overly important, but of note, I will not be updated the SL Jazz blog, SL Jazz After Midnight, as I’ll be focusing on Steampunk this year (as well as some old-timey calisthenics to reduce the waistline)!

Merry Christmas from the Steampunk Tribune!

| December 24, 2012

As I shall be away for a bit celebrating the holidays with family, I did wish to take the opportunity to wish the loyal (and patient) readers of the Steampunk Tribune a Merry Christmas and Fair Tidings for the Holiday Season!

Steampunk Music: The Melting Clock – Chasing the Dragon

| March 21, 2012

Taking a bit opportunity to consolidate the selections for the upcoming update to the Steampunk Facebook Pages, so I’m posting a very smooth piece by a talented group, The Melting Clock, and their wonderful work, “Chasing the Dragon”.  If you happen to have a suggestion, please forward it to the new Steampunk Tribune address, TheSteampunkTribune2@yahoo.com (the previous address was being overrun with Facebook updates).  Until then, please do enjoy!
(… and do stop by their web location, at: http://www.meltingclockmusic.com/ !)

Happy 6th Birthday, Caledon!

| February 26, 2012

Sunday, the 26th of February, 2012, marks the sixth anniversary of the Independent State of Caledon, in Second Life.  I did wish to mark the day, as it was a direct reason why I had unearthed my burgoing interest in Steampunk.  ”Back in the day”, approximately in mid 2006 (as one can divine from the celebratory mark), I stumbled upon Caledon I, the first sim in what is likely one of the largest sims, and by far the largest Steampunk entity in the Virtual worlds.  It was here where I re-introduced myself to the classics of Steampunk, and began to hunt down works of a new genre… which eventually led to the Steampunk Tribune!
The “Realm of the Roses”, as of February 25, 2012
If you happen to be in-world this weekend, do stop by Victoria City, and indulge in the plenitude of activities to celebrate this milestone!  For further information regarding Caledon’s sixth anniversary, please visit their exceptionally large Wiki, at: http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/Independent_State_of_Caledon!  Best wishes for many more!

Vernian Process – Something Wicked (That Way Went)

| February 10, 2012

In the midst of the travails of “real life”, it appears that I hadn’t updated the blog in over 2 days!  I stand accused justifiably as slacker indeed – *sigh*!  So, in the midst of preparing the next blog entry, I present a musical interlude from the group Vernian Process, a wonderful track titled “Something Wicked (This Way Came)”!  Please consider paying them a visit, at: http://www.vernianprocess.com/, or at their Facebook location, at: https://www.facebook.com/vernianprocess?sk=app_178091127385, and please do enjoy!
(Note… For those who happen to be indulging the new endeavor “Journey 2, The Mysterious Island”, do be on the watch for a special Steampunk Tribune Easter egg!  (well… maybe!))

reading, riding, and chromatic typewriting

| January 3, 2012

Looking for something to read in 2012? Dark Faerie Tales is holding a steampunk reading challenge, and everyone’s invited!

The man behind the machinations of the Steampunk Tribune has created a site listing all steampunk-themed Facebook pages. You can explore for hours.

If it’s nice weather where you are, consider storming the castle in an armored quadricycle (yikes) or just plowing into random people on velocipedes and other old-fashioned bicycle creations.

For those of us in cold weather places, take a look at the amazing Chromatic Typewriter, fashioned from a 1937 Underwood, and soak up the gorgeous colors.  (If you've got an iPhone, you can vote for this entry, too, and support further creations!)

The Melancholy Romantic – an outstanding new Steampunk location!

| December 31, 2011

As the last entry for 2011, I was looking for something which I could say would end the year with a “bang”… and did so in a roundabout way!  While seeking further information on yesterday’s entry, I stumbled across the Melancholy Romantic… perhaps the most intriguing Steampunk / Neo-Victorian website I have seen.  With cross-functionality covering a wide variety of Steampunk issues of note (e.g. music, literature, conventions, and more), the Melancholy Romantic is painfully beautiful, so I do hearty recommend a visit to the locale!  I am in the process of adding it to the Steampunk Tribune’s trifecta links, and to see for yourself, please visit: http://melancholyromantic.com/

Merry Christmas wishes from the Steampunk Tribune!

Just a brief note to wish all those who take time to stop by the Steampunk Tribune a Steamy and Merry Christmas!

The Steampunk Facebook Pages…

| December 23, 2011

Although the Steampunk Facebook links have been a popular addition to the Steampunk Tribune, its a bit of a chore for those interested in finding it, as its buried far down the sidebar of the blog.  So, as a bit of a project, I revamped a previous blog into a central area for Steampunk Facebook links… and very unimaginatively called it the “Steampunk Facebook Pages“.  Its still undergoing a few updates and a bit of polishing, but with a bit of time off in the near future, I do expect to have it done.

I realize that there are a still a number of people who have requests for an add, or perhaps wish to be added, so to ensure one’s Facebook link is listed, you can either…
a) Leave a comment, with your Facebook address, and I will post it… or…
b) Send an email regarding “Facebook” in the leader line, and I will post it.

(As such, I’ll be removing the Steampunk Links on the main page by the end of the month, along with the dedicated header page, as I don’t really think its doing the job very well.)

Additionally, I’ll be removing the ETSY pages from the Steampunk Tribune, as I haven’t really updated them as I had anticipated, so I don’t believe its been as helpful as I had hoped   But… there is a link on the left side of the Steampunk Facebook Pages for merchants, so if your endeavor has a Facebook Link, I’ll be happy to post it!

(Once more, this work is still in the process of being updated, so please do be patient!)

The blog address is: http://steampunkfacebook.blogspot.com/, so do feel free to stop by if this catches your fancy!

Steampunk Merchants: Chrononaut Mercantile

| December 17, 2011

With the Christmas season quickly approaching, ideas for outstanding Steampunk items are essential from quality purveyors… and one such merchant with exquisite Steampunk items is a long-time sponsor of the Steampunk Tribune, namely Chrononaut Mercantile!

Taking a trip to Chrononaut Mercantile is always a tempting pleasure, as they have a plenitude of items which easily attract the eye, including iconic Steampunk gifts, such as a stunning pair of goggles (as pictured above)…
… and attire, such as the Adventure’s Vest (shown above).  I do happen to have a penchant for this particular work, as I am quite impressed with the impressive attention to detail show in the small accents (such as the buttoning and trim), so I think it would be safe to say that its is quite a gem, for the lucky fellow (or lady) who is fortunate enough to find this under the tree next weekend!…
Which of course leads to the imporatnt fact – one shopping week (as of this posting), so do expidite your purchase!  To take a longer look at their impressive seleciton, please consider a visit to their webiste, at: http://www.chrononautmercantile.com/

Happy Thanksgiving!

| November 24, 2011

Just a quick note to all who are indulging in Thanksgiving (and the following Black Friday), best wishes from the Steampunk Tribune!

Steampunk Comics: Deliah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant (and a word of thanks!)

| October 31, 2011

Came across a unique online comic series (via IO9), titled Deliah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant, which though it isn’t *exactly* Steampunk (per se), there is a good amount of swashbuckling, a Renascence protagonist, unique takes on transportation, and of course, a bit of tea!  To delve straight away into Deliah Dirk’s escapades, please consider visiting :http://io9.com/5854312/delilah-dirk-and-the-turkish-lieutenant-takes-us-to-1800s-constantinople-in-a-flying-sailboat

… followed by a link to the webcomic page, at: http://www.delilahdirk.com/

Also, I’d like to pass a word of gratitude to all the visitors over the past four plus years, who have stopped by this blog in its many incarnations (The Voyages of a Steampunk Physician / The Heliograph / The Steampunk Tribune).  The blog superseded the one million page views earlier this afternoon, and I’m honored that so many people have taken time out of their day to pass an eye on the Tribune… so I’d like to convey my thanks!
